Church Buildings
Now, for a church buidling to gather the saints together
to worship God, they began a building porgram. Money was
raised with a lot of hard work, much prayer and many tears.
Sis. Baggett and her sister, Sis. Betty, walked from the
3100 block of Grand to Hotel Dieu Hospital, collecting money
from business places as they went to apply to the new church.
They would not use so much as a nickel of the money collected
to buy themselves anything to eat. Some of the women went
to the refinery, which is now Mobil Oil, and asked the men
as they would come to the gate for donations. They washed,
ironed, quilted, sewed, embroidered and anything that was
honest and honrable to raise the money to build the new
church. The church was build on Texas Avenue, and later
moved to 1170 Pope street
During early 1950s, while Rev. R. D. Gibson was the pastor,
he and the people of the church began a new church building
located by the other building on Pope. The church remained
there until 1976.
In 1976, our current sanctuary was constructed on 6655
Highway 105. In 1985, New Life added the Family Life Center,
a multi-purpose facility.
