Foundation of the Church

As the church continued to grow, with people receiving the Holy Ghost during prayer meetings in the saints' homes, Sis. Betty Dyess George realized that a full-time pastor was needed. She prayed and asked the Lord to show her who to ask to come to be the pastor for the church.

In a dream, God showed her Bro. Benny Baggett, an outstanding preacher of the Gospel from Louisiana. Not knowing where he was or whether he was available, she began to inquire. Finally making contact with him by letter, he agreed to stop by Beaumont on his way, with Bro. Scott, to a conference in San Antonio. He did stop by, and saw and felt such a spirit of revival that he decided to stay. Rev. Benny Baggett became the first pastor of the church.

The Sunday School was organized in a small house in the rear of the home of Mr. & Mrs. George Hall on Texas Avenue. This is where the New Life Tabernacle Sunday School was born.

The foundation had been carefully laid for a Jesus Name Church in the City of Beaumont. All that was need was a building to house this wonderful body of new believers.
